Protecting Civil Rights

In keeping with his strong committment to public service and civil rights, on June 26, 2012, Attorney Murphy attended a symposium on civil rights issues.  United States Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. gave the keynote address citing the Justice Department’s record numbers in civil rights enforcement.

Also addressing the audience was Cheryl Brown Henderson, one of the three daughters of the late Rev. Oliver Brown, who in the fall of 1950 along with 12 other parents, led by attorneys for the NAACP, filed suit on behalf of their children against the local Board of Education.  This landmark case, Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas, paved the way for equal rights in education and continues to reinforce the tenants of equality in America.
